Elbit Systems Deutschland has officially received the order from the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Use of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) together with LUFTHANSA TECHNIK to equip the Airbus A350 of the German government aircraft with its Directed Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) self-protection system of the type J-MUSIC™.
With the ability to counter evolving threats, DIRCM systems offer reliable performance, flexibility, and seamless integration across multiple aircraft types the company has completed in recent years through its state-of-the-art DIRCM technology.
"We look forward to collaborating with Lufthansa Technik in this important area, as any improvement in platform protection is of great significance," said Wolfgang Bauer, CEO of Elbit Systems Deutschland. He highlights the good cooperation and explains: "We are proud to work with Lufthansa Technik on this important project to further strengthen the impact and trust in our solutions."
"As threats continue to increase, more and more nations are turning to Elbit's DIRCM solutions to protect their political leadership and ensure their security," comments Oren Sabag, General Manager of Elbit Systems ISTAR & EW, on the order. "Elbit Systems' DIRCM technology has consistently proven its reliability and effectiveness, solidifying its position as a market leader and innovator in this critical area," he adds.
"The readiness of the Bundeswehr transports Germany's political and military leadership. In the face of increasing global instability and regional conflicts, the use of MANPADS and other ground-based air defense systems by non-state actors represents a concrete threat," says Michael von Puttkamer, Vice President Special Aircraft Services at Lufthansa Technik. "The security policy 'turning point' requires that Germany ensures the security of its own leadership – even outside secured airspaces. We are therefore proud of this flagship project with Elbit Systems and Airbus and look forward to bringing our expertise to it."
Elbit Systems' J-MUSIC™ DIRCM system is specifically designed to protect aircraft from advanced heat-seeking Man-Portable Air Defense Systems (MANPADS). The system integrates advanced laser technology with state-of-the-art thermal imaging technology. It is in use on various platforms worldwide, providing proven, high-quality protection for VIP aircraft and military platforms, thus consolidating its position as the preferred solution for protecting high-value objects in the air.
