The Bundeswehr has awarded Rheinmetall with the delivery of 252 unprotected transport vehicles with payload capacities of 5 and 15 tons. This is a follow-on order from the 2017 framework contract for over 2200 state-of-the-art military trucks. The contract value for the vehicles now ordered amounts to approximately 92 million euros gross. The total of 161 five-tonners and 91 fifteen-tonners will be built and delivered by Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles GmbH (RMMV) still in 2019. The production of this second batch will immediately follow the completion of the delivery of the first batch, which is scheduled to be completed in the next months.
On July 5, 2017, the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology and Utilization (BAAINBw) awarded a seven-year framework contract covering a total of 2271 unprotected transport vehicles (UTF) of the HX family, with a gross value of around 900 million euros (including special tools and training services). In a first step, a batch of 558 trucks was taken under contract.
With the significant project of renewing logistic vehicles, the Düsseldorf-based technology company for mobility and security takes a leading role in the modernization of the German Army's fleet of trucks, which consists of many thousands of vehicles. The majority of the essential components – engines, axles, transmissions, and bodies – are of German manufacture, and the assembly of the vehicles will take place at the RMMV plant in Vienna.
The widespread global presence of RMMV vehicles brings significant advantages in terms of interoperability and logistics, especially for multinational deployments. Currently, countries like the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, and Denmark are part of the user base. Norway and Sweden have also placed significant orders with RMMV.
