The Turkish army is getting a new assault rifle that is meant to replace the G3 and the AK47 currently in use. In this video, the weapon is presented very well. The new standard rifle of the Turkish army, Milli Piyade Tüfegi (MPT)-76, translates to "National Infantry Rifle" in English. Noteworthy about this 4.2 kilogram gas-operated, short-stroke piston, rotating bolt rifle is the caliber: Turkey will continue to use the 7.62 x 51mm cartridge! The design is based on the AR-10 architecture. The safety and fire selector levers as well as the magazine release lever can be operated from both sides, and it does not have a safe way to clear the weapon. The transparent plastic magazine holds 20 rounds. The free-floating, cold-hammer forged, six-groove barrel measures 406mm in length and achieves an accuracy of 4 MOA with the M80 cartridge. The weapon features mechanical sights. Additionally, there is a night luminous emergency sight on the detachable carrying handle that can be mounted via a Picatinny rail.
