The EDELWEISS RAID 2015 has started

02/25/2015By Redaktion

Today, the EDELWEISS RAID 2015 started in the early morning, an international, military special competition for mountain troops from various nations, organized by the 6th Mountain Brigade of the Austrian Armed Forces. The competition teams this year come from the countries Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Poland, and Russia. This competition is training for military operations in high mountains and combines athletic excellence with military tasks. It requires skills that distinguish the mountain soldier from the regular infantryman. Mountain troop groups of eight men each have to cover a marching distance of 40 kilometers with a climb of 4,200 meters in high-alpine terrain over two days.

Raid_3The seventh edition of the mountain competition EDELWEISS RAID 2015 - a competition at the highest level - takes place in the Tyrolean Tuxer Alps until February 27. The competition is won at stations where classical challenges for mountain troops have to be overcome. The Austrian mountain troops compete with a strong national and international field of participants. In addition to networking the Austrian mountain troops, valuable insights are also gained through international exchange of experiences and comparison of techniques and equipment during this event.
