The F-COD (Fused Clip On Device) has been in use for many units in Germany for years and is very popular. The improved successor model F-COD Pro will be available at IEA MIL-OPTICS from the third quarter of 2024. The F-COD Pro is even smaller, lighter and more powerful.
The thermal imaging clip-on device for existing night vision devices overlays an image and thus combines the advantages of both technologies in one device. The image intensifier allows the user to move freely in the dark and perceive their surroundings (depending on the performance of the tube and existing ambient light) as if it were daytime. The additional thermal imaging channel allows objects that stand out based on temperature from the surroundings to be perceived much earlier and even without existing ambient light.
Even at distances of 50m, it is extremely difficult to detect motionless people in the woods using image intensifiers. Especially when they are leaning against trees or bushes. The overlay of the residual light image with the thermal image means that the clear temperature differences between buildings and vegetation compared to body temperature can also be used as a detection source. The person is thus clearly visible even at greater distances.
With a weight of only 50g, it is by far the lightest device on the market. Instead of the previous two variants, F-COD and F-COD EB (with an external battery pack instead of an integrated battery), the F-COD PRO combines both variants in one. The "battery compartment," or rather the battery container, can be dismantled without tools and a power supply cable attached.
The F-COD PRO has Bluetooth and the option to connect an optional smart battery pack to use GPS, compass, and image storage.
The F-COD PRO is powered by a standard 3V CR123 lithium battery and offers a runtime of over 3 hours. With the optional battery packs, the runtime is increased to over 10 hours. For an even more pleasant image, the field of view has been increased from 30.5° to 35°.
As usual, the F-COD PRO also has brightness sensors that ensure optimal image adjustment to prevent blending in the image intensifier. With a variety of adapters, the F-COD PRO can be attached to all common night vision devices or equipped with a detachable eyepiece for handheld operation.
