CORVUS DEFENSIO: New rail and handguard for AUG A3 M1/SE

After years of customer requests - with a focus on the USA - CORVUS DEFENSIO has now decided to develop a special rail for the AUG A3 M1 or SE housing. The difficulty has always been the bump on the housing, which is only there to create a corresponding transition for the (removable) optic housing. However, this bump prevents the use of a Picatinny rail that can be extended without interruption at the same height as the standard rail of the AUG A3 SA beyond the end of the housing. The reason why users would like to use extended rails over the barrel is obvious. The extended part is particularly suitable for mounting rifle flashlights, lasers, and optronic attachments for various optics. It also allows the installation of a handguard if someone prefers this option over the handle. The previously available short M1 rails are not suitable for this purpose.

By avoiding the mentioned housing bump in the construction of an extended Picatinny rail, it is a technical challenge. Because the rail would need to be reinforced somewhere if you don't want to build it twice as high.

CORVUS DEFENSIO has ultimately decided to only slightly raise the rail. Just enough to be able to slide it over the bump. The necessary reinforcement is then carried out on the right side. This is the least intrusive side, as the charging handle is located on the left. However, the reinforcement of the rail is not left unused. It actually features an MLOK slot. This feature can be used right away to mount various accessories directly - or through an MLOK Picatinny rail. This spot is particularly suitable for mounting a laser or a rifle flashlight.

The rail - here with the current MLOK handguard from CORVUS - has a length of 38 cm/15 inches, a height above the barrel of 3.8 cm/1.5 inches, a weight of 220 gr/7.75 oz, and features 37 Picatinny slots, two integrated mounts for QD sling swivels with anti-rotation, a recess for military AUG stocks that have reinforcement on the top, a total of five MLOK slots on the sides, and an M16-Carry Handle Interface for direct mounting of Trijicon ACOG scopes without any intermediate mounting.

For this rail, as well as for the A3 SA housing rails, a special handguard will be available, which mounts on the side MLOK slots. It has the unique feature that it allows the barrel to swing freely, the barrel can still be swung out, and the shooter is reliably protected from burns and injuries related to the gas pressure device through interchangeable steel heat shields.

The handguard has been completely redesigned and lightened for the M1 rail. It has MLOK slots milled all around, which can accommodate various accessories and is backwards compatible with Corvus' previous AUG A3 SA housing rails. The use of the handguard allows for particularly good recoil control during rapid firing.
