The Bundeswehr is renewing its shooting simulators. A corresponding contract was recently signed at the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology, and Use of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw). The agreement provides for the regeneration of the hardware components for data processing of the "Training Device Shooting Simulator Small Arms/Anti-Tank Weapons" known as AGSHP.
Thales Deutschland GmbH will bring about 180 AGSHP, four mobile AGSHP shelters, and two so-called data base generation units (DBGE) up to date with the latest technology. The required market-available IT hardware has powerful graphics cards for creating diverse and realistic training and exercise scenarios.
The regeneration of all units has a contract value of around 15 million euros and will be financed from the regular defense budget.
The AGSHP is used as an action trainer in shooting training with small arms and anti-tank weapons in all branches of the Bundeswehr, as well as in the organizational areas of the Joint Support Service, Central Medical Service, Cyber and Information Space, and Personnel. In addition, the simulators are used for preparatory shooting training before school and combat shooting in all training phases for individual shooters and in group settings.
The factory acceptance testing of the new equipment at the contractor is scheduled for the coming year. The regeneration and acceptance of all AGSHP, shelters, and the two data base generation units are planned to start in the first quarter of 2025 and be completed by the end of the same year.
