Combat Vehicles

Bundeswehr: All boxers are already here

06/23/2021By Redaktion

The ARTEC GmbH officially handed over the last of the armored transport vehicles (GTK) Boxer commissioned by the Bundeswehr on behalf of its parent companies Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and Rheinmetall to representatives of the Federal Office for Equipment, Information Technology, and Utilization of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw) and the Ministry of Defense.

The contract for the 2nd batch, concluded in December 2015, included 131 GTK Boxer vehicles with a total order value of 478 million euros. This A2 version incorporates all the experiences and modifications from the Afghanistan mission.

Despite the pandemic, which had some significant effects on delivery schedules, the contractual deadlines were met due to the constructive, pragmatic, and trusting collaboration between industry and the client.

Overall, the two parent companies of ARTEC GmbH have delivered 405 Boxer vehicles to the Bundeswehr. This includes 72 Boxer Ambulance variants, 65 command vehicles, and 256 infantry fighting vehicles.

The combat value enhancement commissioned by the Bundeswehr in 2017 stipulates that all Boxer vehicles from the 1st batch will also be upgraded to the A2 design standard.

Most recently, in February 2021, the corresponding combat value enhancement of a second batch of Boxer command vehicles was contracted to be upgraded to the A2 design standard, so that from 2024, the entire fleet of 65 German Boxer command vehicles will be up to date.

ARTEC GmbH was founded in 1999 and is a joint venture of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann GmbH & Co. KG and Rheinmetall.

It coordinates serial production and serves as a point of contact for all export questions regarding the Boxer.
