Austria has one less Leopard. But don't worry, it will come back. The first tank was bid farewell during the Tradition Day of Tank Battalion 14: this was part of the "Mission Forward," the handover of a Leopard 2A4 combat tank to the European company KNDS (Kraus Maffei Wegmann Nexter Defence Systems, formerly KMW) in Germany, to bring it up to the latest standards as previously announced.
In the "Development Plan 2032+," 58 units of the combat tank "Leopard" 2A4 are planned to be electronically upgraded to today's technological standards. Approximately 240 million euros will be invested in this project. The Army Logistics Center in Wels is the system center for the combat tanks "Leopard" 2A4 and heavy recovery tanks. The facility has the most modern engine and gearbox test stand and has been training apprentices in various professions since 1982.
