The Russian standard machine gun PKM is already quite feared because it is reliably and efficiently used by various insurgents around the world. Russian special forces already use a modified version of it (shown at the top in the image, lying down), which is slightly shorter and better suited for a mobile unit in combat, the PKP Pecheneg.
⠀⠀
But as a classic example that size doesn't matter, the PKP is even shorter. The current design is shortened to a bullpup machine gun with parts from ZenitCo LTD (image above, shooter in the foreground). The result is even more compact, with the center of gravity closer to the shooter's body, better suited for CQB and close combat. Grips and rails from ZenitCo are added, an extremely short stock and furthermore, the ability to mount modern optics is a special benefit.
⠀⠀
The target audience is Spetsnaz units and Russian anti-terrorism groups, where the new Pecheneg can fully utilize its advantages. The name also fits: The Pechenegs were a significant tribe belonging to the Turkic peoples and living in Southern Russia and Ukraine. Their totem animal was a gyrfalcon. Their tribal name means "one who works well and strives" in Old Turkic.
