First aid is a chapter that should actually concern everyone. Most of us have had to take corresponding courses in the military or at least to get a driver's license, which usually taught basics but little practice. Carsten Dombrowski comes from a military background and his book reads accordingly: "Tactical Wound Care for Military and Special Police Units" is extensively illustrated (Attention, there are some gruesome things to see) and aims for practical application. The image atlas is extremely well structured and prepared: exciting reading for far more people than just those targeted by the book title. From the basics of Tactical Wound Care to medical equipment, everything is covered in the book. It talks about mortality rates, injuries, and the possibility of mass casualties. Trauma treatment, airway clearing, bleeding control, initial treatment of burns - everything is here for those who want to learn about emergency medicine. Highly recommended for all with an interest in emergency medical topics.
