BOOKS & MORE: The Steyr Arms StG77 Book

Weapon books are a mixed bag. Some are very exciting, some are well done, but some are not. STEYR ARMS has released a volume this year that we highly recommend. 40 years of the Sturmgewehr 77 - also known as the Steyr AUG - was the occasion. But the book offers much more than that.

A look at the content reveals that there is a lot to do with the topic of the StG77.

The reader is provided with a compact overview of Austrian arms history in the first 100 pages, from the monarchy to the present. This is something we haven't found anywhere else.

This also includes the entire history of present STEYR ARMS and its predecessors. Werndl, Steyr-Daimler-Puch, Steyr Mannlicher - these are names that have made history in Austrian industry. Everything is covered in a concise summary.

Technologically, everything is covered as well, as the company in Upper Austria has played a major role in Austrian armaments.

For example, these were standard weapons for the Austrian Armed Forces: Sturmgewehr 58 (FN FAL), the SSG, and the MG74.

And this is the current standard weapon, developed by Steyr Mannlicher. A visionary design for its time.

This is the first prototype, which looks even more like science fiction than the final product. The book is so well-photographed that you can examine the components in detail. A delight for any firearms technology enthusiast.

All prototypes are extensively documented, making it exciting to see the developmental steps.

Also including images from files, test reports, and other original documents.

The result is impressive. And continues to be successfully used worldwide to this day.

But of course, they have not stood still. The book shows military and civilian advancements.

CONCLUSION: A magnificent text and picture book that offers a lot to read and explore. Extremely engaging content, a great introduction to Austrian armament and weapon history.
