Very discreetly, a press release can be found on the Bavarian Police website, which has great significance the day after the Paris attacks: On Thursday, 11/05/2015, Bavarian undercover police officers from the Rosenheim Police Inspection (PIF) conducted a control on a VW Golf with Montenegrin license plates traveling towards Munich on the A8 motorway around 8:00 AM. During the vehicle inspection in the municipality of Bad Feilnbach, the officers discovered two pistols and a hand grenade in the engine compartment - and more...
The experts from the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (LKA) who were called in were able to secure the following items from various hiding places during a more detailed examination of the VW Golf:
o 8 Kalashnikov rifles with ammunition
o 2 pistols
o 1 revolver
o 2 hand grenades
o 200 grams of TNT explosive
The driver of the VW Golf, a 51-year-old Montenegrin national, was temporarily arrested. The Traunstein Public Prosecutor's Office requested a warrant against the suspect, which was issued by the investigating judge of the Rosenheim District Court. The 51-year-old was transferred to the Traunstein prison.
Investigations by the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office revealed that a Paris/France address was entered as the destination in the VW Golf's navigation system. Additionally, this address was noted on a piece of paper found in the vehicle. Immediate inquiries by the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and Interpol in Paris and Podgorica revealed no information in police databases.
The analysis of the navigation device so far has revealed the following travel route: The route led from Montenegro through Croatia, Slovenia, Austria to the inspection near Rosenheim.
When asked about the target address, the 51-year-old only stated that he wanted to visit the Eiffel Tower in Paris, after which he intended to return home. He claimed not to have known about the weapons and explosives that were seized. Whether there are any connections to the terrorist attacks in Paris is currently being investigated.
A week before the attacks, to be passing through all borders with such a load of weapons to Paris is already a very sensitive situation. Many people are now likely to be interested in the findings of the Bavarian Police investigations.
