In every beginning resides a magic: The Boxer armoured reconnaissance vehicle has reached another milestone in Australia. The Australian Defense Forces have granted the Boxer Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle (CRV) the Initial Operational Capability (IOC).
Thus, on October 15, 2022, Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Richard Marles announced the IOC declaration for the Boxer. The IOC declaration reflects the vehicle’s success in meeting the operational requirements set by the Australian Defense Forces and paves the way for the use of the Boxer in operations.
Gary Stewart, CEO of Rheinmetall Defence Australia, emphasized the significance of the modern and highly protected vehicle for the soldiers of the Australian Army on the occasion of the IOC declaration for the Boxer CRV: "The Boxer CRV is the most advanced reconnaissance vehicle currently in service with the Australian Defense Forces. It offers more protection, higher firepower, and digitization and expands the army's ability to operate safely in hostile environments and peacekeeping missions." On the path to achieving initial operational capability, the Boxer had to undergo extensive tests and combat exercises with the Australian Army.
Rheinmetall is the largest supplier of military vehicles to the Australian Defense Forces. They already have over 2,500 Rheinmetall HX trucks in operation. Rheinmetall is delivering a total of 211 Boxer CRVs and another 1,000 HX trucks. The vehicles are supported by the company's Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence (MILVEHCOE), based in Redbank, southeast Queensland. With the LYNX KF41, Rheinmetall is currently competing against a Korean candidate to become the Australian Army's next combat reconnaissance vehicle.
