Heckler & Koch, so the new assault rifle for the German Army will be an HK 416 A8.

After a long back and forth, it now seems final that the former best bidder Haenel is out, leaving a winner behind. The Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court dismissed a complaint from the losing bidder, the Thuringian gunsmith C. G. Haenel.

The next step: the Bundestag must approve. Then contract negotiations and technical testing in the German Army will follow. It will likely take at least two years before the first large batches are delivered to the troops.
