Altay does not drive without German

12/18/2021By Redaktion

It is supposed to be the first Turkish battle tank, but the project that started in 2007 is likely to be delayed. The big problem: The engine. Initially, the plan was to use an engine and transmission manufactured under license in Germany, but due to various political developments, this plan is no longer feasible. In February 2023, a delegation is set to address the engine problem of the Altay, as seen on Nordic Monitor. If everything goes as Turkish President Erdogan envisions, production of the Altay will begin in 2023. It may only be a matter of years before the first Altay battle tanks roll off the assembly line.
