At the beginning of the year, the major contract for the HK416A8 assault rifle was sealed, which is intended to be used nationwide in the German Bundeswehr as a successor model to the G36.
At the contract signing in January, the order was closed between Heckler & Koch and the procurement office of the Bundeswehr (BAAINBw).
The first delivery of the 390 weapons with accessories then took place in September. Some of the weapons are being inspected by the Military Technical Service for Weapons and Ammunition (WTD 91). The majority will then be tested from January 2024 for operational trials in Arctic, desert-like, and tropical climates, as well as troop trials within the country.
Parallel to the operational testing, negotiations on the Technical Delivery Conditions will take place, followed by a type test. Once all of this is completed, the HK416A8, or the G95 as it will be called in the Bundeswehr, can enter series production starting in 2025.
