The US Army's lineage goes back to an Act passed by the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1775, to create the Continental Army under the command of General George Washington. The Continental Army was the force that gave teeth to the Declaration of Independence when it was passed less than a month later.
After the successful end to the War for Independence from Great Britain and the securing of peace and recognition for the new nation, the rechristened UNITED STATES ARMY replaced the CONTINENTAL ARMY on June 3, 1784. All along the way, however, June 14th has been considered the ARMY's official birthday.
Today is the 250th anniversary of the founding of the US ARMY and thanks to modern technology you can watch the ceremonies and parade in Washington D.C. on the US ARMY official Livestream.
