REVIEW: BATES Rush Shield Mid

09/28/2022By Redaktion
Good boots are a matter of trust. Especially when they are supposed to prove themselves in action. Or worse: when you wear them in everyday life permanently. From BATES in the USA comes an exciting solution to this Gordian knot. The Rush Shield Mid is available at CAMOSTORE.

Looks cool. Is cool too. The Americans might fly to the moon, but when it comes to their tactical boots, they usually don't go that far. That is to say: usually only European footwear, which is simply of better quality. The "Boots" from BATES are a pleasant surprise and exception because they are really good.

Here are the basic features of the shoe:

  • waterproof with Bates DRYGuard Membrane
  • upper made of a combination of leather and open-cell nylon inserts
  • very light and stable thanks to TPU-Frame
  • abrasion-resistant toe and heel cap
  • 4 mm heel drop
  • slip-resistant outsole also meets ASTM2913-19
  • shock-absorbing CMEVA midsole
  • special moisture-wicking lining
  • athletic last for better foot position
  • replaceable EVA insole that adjusts to the shape of the foot
  • Weight per shoe (size 43) approx. 495g

With a high tongue at the front with the logo of BATES.

The Mid Rush is an ankle-high shoe, just the way we like to wear it. Good protection, but not a high shaft.

The lacing ensures a perfect fit of the shoe. They are fabric loops that hold the shoelace and two plastic eyelets on the shaft.

BATES has also not forgotten about the design elements that also protect the foot from side impacts. Inside, it seems to be cut rather generously. CAMOSTORE has provided precise information about the fit to ensure everything fits perfectly.

View from the back. The Rush Shield Mid looks tall and good. This is also due to the chunky sole.

Inside the shoe, BATES uses its own laminate. It's called Dry Guard. It guarantees that you stay dry.

We tested it a bit on the brutal side. It works quite well, nothing has seeped through.

The sole is a real eye-catcher on this shoe. We like the design. The BATES comes across as very modernist.

However, function is even more important to us. The shoe has a good tread, doesn't slip or squeak. The latter is very important.

BATES really adds a wedge at the back, which gives a good sense of movement.

And at the front, the toes are flat and well protected against any impact.

With Mister BATES, you can happily go hiking for work or pleasure. He feels quite at home in the terrain.

Primarily, however, we use him as an urban shoe that performs excellently in the urban jungle.

And in all weather conditions. The Shield laminate protects the Rush Mid, so you don't have a 3-season shoe here, but a solid option for the whole year.

And it also serves as a great backup in the car, if you want to switch to a slightly firmer yet surprisingly lightweight shoe when you step out.

This is how BATES themselves see their shoe.

A very appealing pair. It also comes in urban black.

CONCLUSION: As a shoe, it's actually the surprise of the year for us. We've been using the BATES for half a year now, and the sporty look and above all its comfort in everyday life have consistently impressed us. It's sturdy, lightweight, doesn't look clunky - yet it's different from a civilian shoe. A pleasant companion that walks part of the way with us.

The BATES Rush Shield Mid is available in the colors Coyote and Black exclusively at CAMOSTORE.
