At the 4th Armor Symposium of the KSK in September, the armament needs of the command were discussed, reported by the FB page Kommando Spezialkräfte (KSK). This includes various new acquisitions: In addition to a successor to the AGF "Serval", small vehicles (ATVs) and gliding parachute systems are needed.
Furthermore, a "Special Forces Assault Rifle" is to be procured, which is considered independently of the G36 successor of the rest of the Bundeswehr. The Special Forces Assault Rifle is to be ordered in a 5.56mm and a 7.62mm variant. The combination of G38 (HK416A5) and G27 (HK417) is not unlikely. The latter rifle is already used as a support weapon by the Special Forces (but not only there, see G27P).
Also, a 60mm caliber Command Mortar is to be procured, with the industry expected to submit proposals in early 2017. In addition to armament, night combat capabilities must be expanded, with a European solution being desirable (according to KSK Commander, Brigadier General Baehr) but not currently foreseeable. The acquisition of personal equipment and what is commonly referred to as "Soldier Systems" is in flux: clothing, personal equipment, and radios. According to Baehr, there are no plans for a separate KSK procurement process, but a faster supply of materials would be desirable, as some equipment is already outdated upon introduction.
