Thermal image from EAW in Germany

EAW is known for scope mounts for just about any hunting rifle, but they also deal with thermal imaging technology. Their latest model is the Fokus HD50, which they also presented at the Behördentagen 2025 by TEUTODEFENCE.

The special thing about the Fokus HD50 is that it is a thermal imaging camera with a laser rangefinder that can also be used as a clip-on device or stand-alone aiming optic. An internal ballistic calculator automatically determines the correct holdover point. As we as Austrians have understood, thermal imaging sights with crosshairs are expected to soon become legal for hunters in Germany.

We were able to convince ourselves of the Fokus HD50 with a live fire demo. Thanks to the laser rangefinder and the ballistic calculator, hitting the target is very easy. The image itself is razor-sharp thanks to the 640x480px sensor and the 1024 x 768px screen, making the target easily recognizable up to 300 m away. If it happens to be further away, there is also a digital zoom.
