The 3M PELTOR Comtac VIII has landed

The 3M PELTOR ComTac VIII is the next generation of our communication and hearing protection headset platform for police and military use, with updated design and optimized system integration. The ear cups, headband, and microphone attachment have been completely redesigned to improve attenuation, comfort, and overall user-friendliness for the wearer.

The headband has been redesigned to be even more ergonomic and comfortable. It better conforms to the shape of the head. More room for the ears to improve long-term wearing comfort, especially when used with earplugs. The speakers are angled to create more space for the ears.

The ambient sound listening function, also known as "talk-through," allows harmless sounds to electronically bypass individual hearing protection, while still protecting against harmful noise. A microphone picks up sounds outside the headset and transmits them to a speaker inside the headset. The level-dependent digital audio circuit detects noise levels above the desired threshold and compresses them to a safe decibel level or amplifies weak sounds to an audible level. The ComTac VIII features the latest environmental microphones positioned in a wider and deeper parabolic design.

Mission Audio Profiles

The ComTac VIII offers a way to customize the audio settings of the headset for specific operational areas. With conventional headsets, the frequency response is fixed. The user can only adjust the volume up or down. The MAP function offers advanced modes for ambient listening with different gain settings and frequency adjustments to enhance hearing in different situations. The Mission Audio Profiles (MAPs) are designed for combat missions and combat support operations.

Hearing Protection and Hearing Protection Plug Mode

In critical situations, noise levels can be so high that they immediately and permanently damage hearing if appropriate protection is not worn. ComTac VIII contributes to hearing protection and can also be worn in combination with hearing protection plugs to provide additional protection when needed. In the hearing protection plug mode, it is possible to maintain a certain level of auditory situational awareness as the headset's volume is increased to compensate for the additional attenuation provided by the hearing protection plug.

Mission-Critical Communication

Communication plays a crucial role in modern military operations. The ability to communicate is essential to respond, coordinate, and react effectively. ComTac VIII features sound adjustment to promote speech intelligibility in noise. The sound adjustment allows for automatic changes in product settings depending on the user's environment. The external communication and ambient sound listening functions are independent of the Rx/Tx failsafe; in the event of an electronic failure or dead battery, external device communication continues to function.
