The M4 Reduced Signature Chest Rig (RSCR) is the latest innovation from Zulu Nylon Gear. It fits into the trend of small rigs - from the HSP D3CR to the Helikon Mini Training Rig: the minimum of equipment should be accommodated in a light and compact Chest Rig. Let's see if Zulu Nylon Gear has succeeded. Front view. Immediately visible are three pockets for AR15 magazines. Unfortunately, other 5.56 magazines like that of the STG 77 do not fit, everything is held very tight. In addition, there is an elastic loop on both sides to mount pens or chem lights. And at the bottom there are also flexible straps to create space.
Zulu Nylon Gear's trademark is their open top Velcro pockets, which are also used here. When closed, you can see that the Chest Rig is adorned with two shock cords. The top one ensures a tight fit for the magazines. The lower one can be used to store items like gloves or a tourniquet, making them easily accessible.
Once worn, the pocket opens at the loop. You just have to pull it upwards and it's open. It's quick and practical. However, it does not close by itself. To be honest, closing it takes some practice. The clear advantage: the magazines are securely stored inside.
Now the other pockets are also closed. Attention is now drawn to the Fastex closures. Two on each side and two on top make it modular. It can also be mounted on plate carriers as seen in other systems.
The back. At the top you can see the Velcro strip for the magazine pockets. There is also a large Velcro area for mounting on plate carriers. What we unfortunately did not photograph is that the Chest Rig also has a small map pocket. The slot is located at the top near the Velcro for the magazine pockets and is also closed with Velcro.
The back, when worn. An H-strap with shock cord makes it comfortable. It moves with every motion and adjusts optimally to the body. A hip belt also provides extra security.
Close-up of the H construction. We recommend threading the straps of the belt back to prevent accidental opening under load. Unfortunately, the excess straps cannot be stored, we would have wished for a solution. (Duct Tape is your friend.) Nevertheless, it can be adjusted from very small to very large smoothly, which is a huge plus.
Side view and you can immediately see the shock cord for the hip belt. Again, it provides optimal fit and best mobility, a pragmatic solution.
In conclusion, the Chest Rig is truly minimalist, but extremely well made. No loose seams or the like. Handcrafted, Made in USA.
CONCLUSION: Small, light, almost perfect. Anyone looking for a Chest Rig for their AR15 will find it here. Those looking for something that might be for more than just an AR15 will not be happy here. Three magazines, two chem lights, a tourniquet, and a map fit in this Chest Rig. Truly the minimum and sufficient for many situations (urban, training, in the car…), in our opinion. At the same time, the magazine load can also be integrated well into a plate carrier. The only thing we would still wish for is a better way to store the strap excess. But this can be easily achieved with a little sewing skill.
