New weapon: FN SCAR 15P Rifle-Caliber Pistol

Gun is a relative term. FN America, LLC expands the FN SCAR® family and introduces the long-awaited FN SCAR 15P pistol in rifle caliber.

It's not always about size: The "pistol" in 5.56 NATO caliber is an extremely lightweight and compact design with a weight of 5.65 pounds unloaded and a length of just under 20 inches with its 7.5-inch cold hammer-forged barrel. The SCAR 15P was specifically designed with flexibility and mobility in mind and is, according to the U.S. FNH branch, "the ideal choice for home and self-defense or for daily use at the shooting range."

The receiver, made from a single piece of aluminum, features a full-length M1913 Picatinny rail at the 12 o'clock position and side rails at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, providing ample space for optics, a flashlight, or a front grip. At the rear of the gun body is a vertical Picatinny rail (VPR) with a quick-detach sling mount for use with one-point slings. The trigger module, serving as the lower receiver, is identical to that of the SCAR 16S and shares a number of similarities between the two systems. It offers an ambidextrous fire selector and magazine release. The gun is compatible with any AR magazine.

The ultra-compact SCAR pistol is powered by the highly reliable short-stroke gas piston system, the heart of every SCAR. The adjustable low-flash gas regulator and the three-prong flash hider, which reduces muzzle flash, are particularly appreciated in the pistol configuration when multiple shots are fired at close range from the fully free-floating, cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined 7.5-inch barrel.

The SCAR pistol comes equipped with a no-recoil charging handle assembly, which reduces felt recoil due to the lower mass of the bolt carrier and provides an extremely easy-to-handle system for shooting with slings. The assembly includes the redesigned bolt carrier, the charging handle slide, and ambidextrous, reversible charging handles – one with a low profile and another offset by 30 degrees, allowing the use of low-mounted optics and serving as a hand stop if desired. The low-profile charging handle is factory-installed, the 30-degree offset is included with the pistol and can be retrofitted by the customer.

Packaged in a discreet, soft carrying case color-matched to the pistol, transporting from home to the firing range and back has never been easier. With plenty of room in the case for spare magazines and other accessories, the FN SCAR 15P pistol case is an easy option for storage and transport. The pistol is available in Black or Flat Dark Earth (FDE) and comes with a 30- or 10-round FN SCAR-L magazine.
