AI Rifle Sights for the US Army

06/06/2025By Lawrence

SMARTSHOOTER has secured a $13 million contract to supply its SMASH 2000L fire control systems to the U.S. ARMY. The award is part of the Army’s “Transforming In Contact” initiative, which accelerates the deployment of emerging technologies on the battlefield.

The SMASH 2000L is the company’s most lightweight handheld fire control unit, integrating artificial intelligence, computer vision, and advanced tracking algorithms to enhance precision and lethality for rifle units in combat. The SMASH 2000L measures just 164 millimeters (6 inches) in length, weighs 740 grams (1.6 pounds), and is powered by a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery capable of supporting up to 72 hours of assisted targeting.

Designed to deliver “precision in every shot,” the system is effective against both ground threats and aerial targets, including drones. The system has already seen operational use by the Israel Defense Forces and has also been fielded by several NATO militaries. SMARTSHOOTER touts the SMASH 2000L’s proven performance and “unmatched accuracy” as a force multiplier in both conventional and asymmetric warfare environments. Its adoption by the U.S. Army underscores growing interest in AI-powered weapon enhancements for infantry operations.

Work under the new contract will be managed by SMARTSHOOTER’s U.S. subsidiary in Virginia.
