HOW TO: Weapon camouflaging with Krylon

10/28/2021By Redaktion

In the previous posts on the topic of "Spraying with Krylon," we showed you the basics and how to create a simple camouflage pattern with stencils. Today we want to use our knowledge for a rifle camouflage.

The beginning is always the same, the object of your desire needs to be cleaned and degreased. For firearms, it is recommended to remove parts that should not get any paint. The bolt and bolt carrier are classics here.

Anything that cannot be removed but should not get any Krylon paint should be taped off. Painter's tape serves a good purpose here. Such areas include the lenses of scopes, various scales on adjustment turrets, and the safety markings.

Of course, the muzzle and magazine well should also be taped off. Here we crumpled up paper and stuffed it into the barrel and then sealed it with tape. We also taped off the rear sight.

Once everything is prepared, you can get started. For the base coat, we hung up our gun. This way, you can reach all parts well with the spray and there are no resting points. We chose a light beige tone for the base coat, as in the two previous projects.

As the first camouflage color, we add stripes in brown. This will provide some more depth in the following steps.

Now we start with the actual camouflaging. To do this, we place leaves and twigs on top of the rifle. Simply as you like, there is no right or wrong way.

We now spray over these stencils with the first color, we chose a medium green hue.

After that, continue in the same way. Let it dry, reposition the stencils, and spray another color over. Repeat this process until you are satisfied with your pattern.

In our video, we show you all the steps in detail. The colors you choose can vary, of course.

After a total of five layers of Krylon, a very usable camouflage has emerged. We are satisfied.

To make the paint last longer, we add a layer of clear coat to our artwork. This is optional.

After everything has dried, we remove the tape and admire our end result. Looks much better, doesn't it?

Even in the great outdoors, the new paint job looks very good. The weapon is now much better concealed than in its natural black color. If you feel inspired to camouflage your weapon, HERE at CAMOSTORE you can find the original Krylon.
