REVIEW: Element/ Z-Tactical Comtac I

09/29/2012By Redaktion

An increasingly rare piece of equipment is the Peltor Comtac I. Unfortunately, the original is expensive but good, so today we have taken a closer look at the Element copy and the microphone upgrade kit for you.

In the picture, you can see the improved microphone and the Comtac I. First, a few words about the Comtac I. It is operated with 2 AA batteries that are placed on the left side.

On the right side, there are the two function buttons. With them, you can adjust the volume of the noise-filtering function and turn it on and off. The "noise filtering" works quite well, as with the other headsets from Element, although there is quite a strong background noise at the highest volume. The wearing comfort of this headset is very good, but it becomes uncomfortable after some time. Unfortunately, this is the case with all headsets of this type (Comtac, Sordin, etc).

Here is a picture of the original microphone and battery cover. The installation is very easy because you only need to replace the battery cover. Using the new microphone does not improve the headset, the one that comes with it works fine, it just looks better or like a TCI Liberator Headset.

The processing is good, typical of Element. The quality of the noise filtering could be better, but that would be asking too much considering the price compared to the original. The plug is a standard Nexus plug and works perfectly with Element's PTTs.

CONCLUSION: If you don't want to buy the original headset, you will certainly enjoy this headset for reenactment or airsoft purposes. We do not recommend using it in actual operations or at the shooting range.

Comtac I available at RSOV for $75.49 (excluding shipping) and the Upgrade Kit for $15.99 (excluding shipping).
