REVIEW: Marom Dolphin Fusion System 4 - The Backpack

08/17/2021By Redaktion

Packed with beautiful items that make life harder, the infantry marches into the field. Harder, because they usually have to carry all the stuff on their backs. The MAROM DOLPHIN Fusion System has found a successful solution here. We have already explained in detail the individual components - the T-Belt and the carrying system and the integrated armor. Today, in the final part, we will focus on the backpack of the system. And we will bring it all together.

This is what the backpack of the MAROM DOLPHIN Fusion System looks like. It offers around 55 liters of packing volume, a good size to accommodate a sleeping bag, food, and other equipment.

The backpack is quite slim. There is nothing playful about it. Everything makes sense and is practical in use.

One noticeable feature is the absence of shoulder straps, but we already have those on, because the MAROM DOLPHIN Fusion System is ultimately the fusion of a backpack and a plate carrier.

This plate is the adapter that connects the backpack with the back piece. This is actually quite simple in theory. Hook it at the top and then snap the iron crossbar in the lower area.

The plate itself is an interesting piece because it doesn't necessarily have to carry a backpack, but could be equipped in a variety of ways. A storm pack would fit, a radio backpack, a backpack for MG ammunition, a first aid pack, ammunition pallet for RPG or Carl Gustav. The possibilities are virtually endless...

The devil is in the details. You have to hook the backpack at the top end of the carrying unit. You can do this alone, but with a heavier backpack, a comrade should assist you.

The idea is to swing the backpack over your head and hook everything in place. With some practice and not too much weight, it works surprisingly well. Clicking the crossbar into place then almost happens automatically.

You still have two straps available to hook onto the front of the shoulder straps. These pull the backpack towards you to ensure comfortable carrying.

This is what the complete MAROM DOLPHIN Fusion System looks like. One thing that stands out is that the backpack sits very high. About 10 cm higher than ordinary backpacks. This is due to the TPP on the belt, but the load distribution is a dream. The entire weight of the backpack, plate carrier, and any combat gear goes directly into the hips, thus relieving the back. Trekking for military professionals ...

The backpack offers a top compartment, two side compartments, and a divisible main compartment. Overall, it is very classic but functional.

If you release the compression straps, you can unfold additional side compartments and have access to a kind of tunnel.

This is probably intended for elongated equipment, such as sniper tripods, rockets or grenades like the AT-4, skis for mountain troops, and similar items.

In the tunnel, you will also find a slot pocket with a carabiner.

The zippered exterior pockets offer approximately five to six liters of volume and are not further divided.

Since the backpack of the MAROM DOLPHIN Fusion Systems cannot be transported well without the carrying system, a storable carrying strap is sewn on one side. This way, the backpack can be carried for loading.

You can access the main compartment via the top or from the bottom. There is a zippered access on the front. Very practical if you only want to reach your sleeping bag without emptying the entire contents.

The lid is equipped with a large compartment, we estimate it to be around four to five liters in size.

On the inside of the lid, there is another mesh compartment. To prevent anything from falling out, the access to the main compartment is secured with a strap and can thus be compressed somewhat in height.

The backpack of the MAROM DOLPHIN Fusion Systems is a top loader with a snow skirt and drawstring. Nothing extraordinary, but all items that have proven themselves.

The interior is unspectacular. In the middle, you can see the zipper for separating the compartments.

The separation is located approximately in the middle of the backpack, where our hands show it.

On both sides, the backpack of the MAROM DOLPHIN Fusion Systems is equipped with a zipped antenna outlet. You already have the hydration bladders on your back and are therefore independent of the backpack when you need to get rid of it quickly.

Getting rid of it is really quick. The wearer just needs to unhook the two adjustment straps at the top and pull firmly on the release handle once. The backpack falls to the ground, but the rest of the equipment stays on the person. Later, the backpack can simply be reattached, as shown before. You don't have to reset anything or do anything else, just reattach the backpack and click it in securely.

The release handle. You can choose the position relatively freely, as it is not fixedly sewn. Whether left or right, front or back, higher up or lower down, everything is possible. We like that.

Here is an older video by MAROM DOLPHIN which explains the entire system very well.

CONCLUSION: MAROM DOLPHIN has thought of everything in the entire Fusion System. The fusion of the Battle Belt, carrying system with the option of armor/plate carrier, and the backpack is truly unique. Due to the almost direct load transfer to the hips, the Fusion System is surprisingly comfortable even when fully loaded. The backpack offers enough space for a three-day trip or even more. The quick-release system is one of the most functional we know.

Overall impressive, because it is also extremely functional. We all have come to a unanimous opinion: as infantrymen, we would have liked to use this system. That would have avoided some pressure points and saved our backs.
