Submachine guns have been a bit underrated lately. This is partly because, for example, in terror scenarios the Kalashnikov with its heavy 7.62 x 39 cartridge is seen as a possible enemy. In contrast, 9mm is a much lighter game. On the other hand, there is also a shift to 5.56 even in police mid-range weapons or in military CQB weapons with barrel lengths between 10.5 and 11.5 inches. And if it's a submachine gun, then definitely the MP5 from Heckler & Koch ... Well, while some sleep, others wake up. At SIG SAUER, the 9mm SMG has been revised. The result is an amazing device, which externally reminds a bit of an AR15.
Let's start from the back: the stock solution is modular. The shooter can therefore, as seen here, mount a sliding stock from SIG, but folding stocks are also available.
Here it is clear that an AR15 system has served as an inspiration. The weapon is ambidextrous, with the function and positioning of the fire selector, mag release, and bolt release similar to an AR15. The pistol grip can be exchanged just as easily, with taste and hand shape deciding what is best for the shooter.
So small and already an ejection port ... It is fed with 20 or 30 round magazines. Besides the 9mm version, the weapon is also available in the calibers .40 S&W and .357 SIG. The bolt uses a short-stroke gas piston system with rotary bolt closure. In Germany, "only" the full submachine gun is available, if you look at the American SIG SAUER website, you will also see a short "K" version and even a 9mm MPX carbine. Suppressor is also an option. A ROMEO4 optic from SIG SAUER is mounted on the rail.
SIG SAUER uses KeyMod, the weapon has a full-length rail on top, making it open to all possible equipment options. The barrels are easily interchangeable between 4.5", 6.5", and 8".
Here is how it looks disassembled.
All the essential features on an infographic from SIG SAUER. HERE is the product video of the MPX, showing its internals and modularity as well.
