HOW TO: Everything in the depot

Some preppers and crisis preparers have hidden squirrel nests on their way to their "safe place" or in the vicinity of their "safe place" in order to better survive a "worst-case scenario" or to be able to move less luggage (in the form of clothing, equipment, and food). This is also called an "earth depot" quite prosaically.

The endeavor usually fails due to suitable containers that should be robust, waterproof, and also inexpensive. But, this combination exists. The container comes from the online shop www.BA-Store.eu. It is a plastic packaging used by the US Armed Forces to store artillery cartridges.

From the outside, the thing looks quite unspectacular. Large, angular, and with struts. Just a plastic box. But upon closer inspection, curiosity is aroused, one could misuse it in a civil sense. So, the cartridge packaging was scrutinized more closely.

The lid has a very coarse thread, so that one does not have to screw for a long time to access the contents. It closes very flush on an O-ring. This makes the box waterproof. To make it easier to unscrew the cover, a foldable lever was attached to the lid. Even if the lever tears off, the closure can still be unscrewed with some effort.

The outer side was deliberately chosen angular so that several boxes can be stacked in a warehouse and fit together perfectly without rolling away.

In contrast, the inside is cylindrical. I first thought about what I would store in a "squirrel hideout." When I had everything together, I wondered if I could store it all in there. And behold, it fit inside.

And there was still some air on top. So, a few more small items were added.

Full! Inside is a set of equipment for emergencies - deposited in a decentralized manner.

CONCLUSION: A useful reuse of a very special packaging that would otherwise just be thrown away. Those looking for a waterproof and robust container for a storage location are really well advised with this cartridge container. Whether it is to be buried or stored in a cellar. If multiple containers are used, they could also be color-coded to better identify the contents without having to open each box.
