Recently, we had the pleasure of reviewing some products from a new gear manufacturer. TacPack from Fürth (near Nuremberg) is a small company specializing in backpacks and bags. TacPack currently offers only a small selection of products, but continuously expands its range. Since they do not keep stock, you have the opportunity to customize the existing basic systems to suit your taste - so you get a truly handmade custom pack. Today, we are introducing you to the E Square (E2).
The E2 is a classic 3-Day Assault Pack with a capacity of about 30 liters. It measures approximately 55cm x 32cm x 17cm, with the final dimensions depending on the wearer. When ordering, you have to provide your body size, back length, etc., so that the backpack can be best adapted. From the beginning, you are closely involved in the design process and are treated competently and friendly.
After determining the size, the next step is to choose the material, color, carrying system, and any personal adjustments. The E2 presented here comes in 500d Cordura with the camouflage print Pencott Greenzone, which proves to be extremely effective in our latitudes.
As befits an Assault Pack, this one comes with MOLLE loops: there are 6 rows with 7 loops on the front and 5 rows with 3 loops on each side - also in Pencott Greenzone to maintain camouflage effectiveness.
The equipment is simple, proven, and effective. Behind the front loops, there is a flat zippered compartment intended for documents or similar items.
On the sides, there are elastic pockets that can accommodate all common water bottles.
Compression straps on the top of the backpack, as well as additional straps for attaching extra equipment, are also present, along with a laminated carrying handle, Velcro area for patches, and D-rings on the shoulder straps.
The straps are available in two variants: Either regular straps (V1 carrying system) or the V2 Harness shown here.
This one has the advantage that the backpack can be even better adjusted to the wearer, compared to regular shoulder straps. Both V1 and V2 are anatomically preformed and come with an adjustable chest strap.
TacPack has chosen the ideal balance between the thickness of the padding and the width of the straps - as you often see overly thick padding on overly thin straps.
What we particularly liked is the fixation of the shoulder straps at the bottom of the backpack. These do not run behind or over the hip fins, but are attached above them.
The carrying system is complemented by a removable hip belt and the padded back area.
Behind the padding is another slip pocket intended for hydration bladders or the included framesheet.
Compared to other backpacks, the back padding lies relatively close to the back, meaning heat points are likely to develop, but this can also be customized. The hip belt, like the straps, is lightly padded but very wide, allowing for better weight distribution on the hips.
It is secured with an AustriAlpin buckle and can be tightened either backwards or over a triglide bar forwards. Hypalon is used on the inside to provide durability and prevent slipping. If you do not need a hip belt, you can remove it and secure the pack only with the straps.
The main compartment stands out: no wonder, it uses 330d Cordura in the color "Blaze Orange," which greatly helps in finding items in the backpack, especially at night.
On the backside, there is a suspension for hydration bladders with a port and mesh pocket. The front flap, which almost opens entirely, does not have further subdivision but has two attachments on the top where you can hang organizers. This way, you remain flexible and can move them between backpacks.
