Fresh practice rockets for combat helicopters

07/17/2024By Redaktion

RHEINMETALL has signed a framework contract with the Bundeswehr for the delivery of 70mm practice rockets. The potential contract value is over 100 million EUR.

A first order worth a mid-double-digit million EUR amount was booked in the second quarter of 2024. The pilot lot is to be delivered in 2024. If it is successfully accepted, serial production will take place between 2025 and 2029. RHEINMETALL is collaborating with the Belgian subsidiary FZ of the Thales group on the development, qualification, and production of the unguided 70mm rockets. The rockets are used, among other things, as armament for the Tiger combat helicopter.

The Tiger can deploy the unguided rockets from a launch container to engage infantry targets, positions, or unarmored and lightly armored vehicles, for example. The practice rockets ordered now enable the combat helicopter crew to conduct realistic training.
