Sometimes things just lie around like that. Take this for example: it's the pre-production model of the new assault rifle for the Austrian police, which is planned to be acquired in 6,000 units. Inconspicuous and black, it appears without much explanation at the Enforce Tac, completely unexpectedly.
"Pre-production" because the barrel length on this AUG is too long. This fate is Austrian: the gun cases in police cars are already there and should not be replaced at high cost. So the gun still needs to be a few centimeters shorter to fit nicely into the car. And especially today, on International Women's Day, always remember: size doesn't matter.
The second fascinating moment about the weapon is that the police made the right choice. The assault rifle here has an A3 housing, not the more common M1 at the moment.
The police wanted the weapon to have combat-enhancing excellent parts from Corvus Defensio - HERE we introduced Corvus. This means, instead of the classic foregrip, it has a Keymod Rail. On top, there is a long housing rail from Corvus Defensio, which is kind of in between their regular long one and their M1 Rail. Probably because it needs to be shorter...
A huge benefit for every AUG shooter is the brass deflector from Corvus Defensio. It is supplemented by the enlarged magazine release button (see below).
There's the good piece - with the still too long barrel. The Aimpoint may not be the final optic, as the friendly gentlemen at Steyr Mannlicher were not sure. We heard something about a weapon light, possibly from Surefire.
Another weapon that is currently in development as part of the upgrade for the police force, which we unfortunately could not see, is the special unit "Cobra" to get the Steyr AUG in caliber .300 BlackOut - compact weapon, massive punch. We are already very excited about that...
Here is a data sheet for the new SSG M1 from Steyr Mannlicher - HERE we have already presented it.
