Rheinmetall is expanding its strategic partnership with the high-tech software manufacturer blackned GmbH, Heimertingen. Rheinmetall Electronics GmbH from Bremen has expanded its existing cooperation agreement with blackned and acquired a 40% stake in the company. The partner blackned will remain independent and can further advance its growth trajectory through this important step. Rheinmetall emphasizes its commitment to expand its leading role as a partner for the digitalization of armed forces by investing in the renowned software manufacturer. Through this strategic partnership, Rheinmetall will be even better positioned to realize the connectivity of tactical information and communication networks as well as the impact chains within the system network in the future.
The privately owned German company blackned specializes in mission-critical communication systems and has developed a next-generation information and communication middleware called TacticalCore. The TacticalCore framework is now set to be integrated into Rheinmetall's overall architecture to network existing systems, and is already an integral part of the "Digitalization of Land Based Operations" (D-LBO) architecture. The aim of this program of the German Army is to digitize the land forces, and in the first step to ensure the command capability of the "Division 2025" project - a Bundeswehr task force that is expected to be fully equipped and operational by 2025.
The digitization of armed forces is also advancing internationally. Rheinmetall is currently involved in related projects in Australia, Great Britain, Hungary, and other countries.
"We are truly excited about the strategic merger with blackned," said Christoph Müller, Head of the Rheinmetall Electronic Solutions division. "With the new setup, we jointly offer our military customers a technologically compelling answer to the digitalization of land forces. Rheinmetall's leading sensor portfolio can now be established as part of a digitally connected ecosystem with its vehicles, UAVs, soldier systems, and unmanned platforms thanks to blackned's Tactical Core."
"With the strategic investor Rheinmetall, we can consistently continue our growth path, drive forward our technological advancements, and thus provide our customers with the best possible technology," said blackned Founder and CEO Timo Haas. "At the same time, we can supply the partner Rheinmetall with a high-tech state-of-the-art middleware solution for their future system development - a true win-win situation."
