REVIEW: Fenix TK20R V2.0

07/22/2022By Redaktion

Hello, sturdy flashlights are great. Even better when they work with rechargeable batteries, and best of all when the battery doesn't need to be removed from the flashlight for charging. Some flashlight manufacturers are moving in this direction, including FENIX with their new TK20R v2.0.

The TK20R v2.0 feels very high-quality and sturdy. The diameter of the flashlight body is ~25 mm and it is about 15 cm long. The head diameter is 34 mm.

Here are the technical specifications of the device:

There are a total of five brightness levels and a strobe mode available. The exact lumen and candela values can be found in the manufacturer's table. We don't have a measuring device for that, but the TK20R v2.0 is definitely very bright, and more than 100 m of effective beam distance is no problem.

The components of the TK20R v2.0 include the body with the flashlight head and LED, end cap with switch, battery, and detachable pocket clip.

Operating the switch is simple. The large one is the on-off switch and allows for both "momentary" and "constant" ON. The second switch is for changing the brightness levels or activating the strobe mode. There are also two small holes on the cap for a lanyard.

The "R" in TK20R v2.0 stands for rechargeable, meaning it is rechargeable. However, the battery does not need to be removed. The USB-C port is hidden under a screwed cover, which is waterproof. Don't worry, the USB-C port is waterproof even if you happen to leave it open.

A USB to USB-C charging cable is included in the package.

The charging status LED is on the opposite side and indicates when the battery is full.

Regarding the end cap switch, the TK20R v2.0 is compatible with both the end cap of the TK36 TAC flashlight as well as the Fenix remote switch. The TK20R v2.0 also works very well on long guns, where permitted.

The brightness of the TK20R v2.0 is very good. We also like the beam pattern. The strongly focused center is narrower than with the previous Fenix flashlights we have tested, allowing for targeted illumination of objects at a distance. The spill around the center has a pleasant brightness and is completely uniform almost to the edge.

CONCLUSION: The TK20R v2.0 is a solid EDC flashlight and also recommended as a weapon light. The included switch saves the last used brightness level, which can sometimes be too bright or too dim. But thanks to the good switch positioning, this can be changed very quickly or you can simply switch the switch. The operation with gloves was ok, although the small switch is a bit difficult to feel. Overall, the TK20R v2.0 convinced us.

The TK20R v2.0 is available directly from FENIX in Germany starting at 129.99 euros.
