Old does not need to be reinvented, it is enough if it is improved. That's what Petzl did with their small e+Lite headlamp. You can find the review of the "old" version HERE. But enough of nostalgia, let's get into the details of the new e+Lite. The packaging is simple and easy to recycle.
On the back you will find a lot of information, all neatly listed.
Now quickly unpack the lamp and the red storage case, because we are interested in the contents of the package. Thanks to a thick rubber ring, the lid is held on the body.
When closed, the Petzl e+Lite is very compact at 86 x 47 x 25 mm. The small headlamp fits perfectly without much folding.
On the back you will find an eyelet, so that the container can be mounted on your belt. You will also find integrated pictograms for emergencies on the box. Well solved.
The cord stopper on the headband is also an emergency whistle. Multi-use in its purest form.
The lamp itself is just as easy to operate as its predecessor, only the selector switch is now white instead of red.
Another visual difference is the use of only one white LED instead of three. The LED of the Petzl e+Lite produces 15 lumens of power in the small light mode and 50 lumens in the stronger mode.
The red light is intended for close range and floods the area with a small but fine two lumens. When it's really dark, that's more than enough and perfect for reading maps.
At both ends of the selector switch scale you will find the "OFF" position, very practical. Only in the top position is there also a lock position that prevents unintentional activation.
The Petzl e+Lite is powered by two CR2032 batteries. The minimum lighting duration is 9 hours at maximum power and 95 hours on white flash. The truth lies as always somewhere in between. We haven't had to change the battery yet, but we have only used the lamp briefly.
Thanks to the ball joint, the small Petzl e+Lite can be easily positioned. The lamp is also certified to IPX7, allowing you to go for a swim for 30 minutes, at least not deeper than one meter.
CONCLUSION: Ultralight, very small and surprisingly versatile. The Petzl e+Lite is a superlative. The price of 25-30 euros, depending on the provider, is reasonable. With the battery life of 15 hours in red light, you can go around for a few nights. Nightly rummaging in your backpack should come to an end with the lamp, as you can simply keep it in your pocket or around your neck.
The Petzl e+Lite costs 27.99 euros at ASMC.
