Glock wins in France - and more FN

01/07/2020By Redaktion

As it looks, the new service pistol of the French Army is called Glock 17. However, it is now called PANG there - which is the humorous abbreviation for "Pistolet Automatique de Nouvelle Génération," which means "Automatic pistol of the new generation." In fact, it is a Glock 17 Gen 5 with a tan frame and a black slide and night-sight capability. By 2022, 74,596 pieces of the new service weapon are expected to be delivered, costing the French 44 million euros.

The Ministère des Armées has allocated 100 million euros for 2,620 FNH SCAR-H PR rifles, which will be introduced in the French Army as semi-automatic precision rifles (FPSA).

The FPSA system is a product of OIP Sensor Systems, Telefunken-Racoms in collaboration with the firearm manufacturer FN Herstal and the company MEN. The weapon and its associated ammunition (including Armour Piercing) will be introduced with corresponding suppressors and I2 and IR optics. Delivery begins in 2020. The FPSA replaces the FR-F2 in service since the 1980s. The new 7.62mm NATO rifle is designed to engage targets up to 800m away and is used as part of an ongoing initiative to enhance individual soldier capabilities. The weapon is intended for sniper use, considered as the "eyes of the section chief" performing long-range observation, reconnaissance, and target neutralization missions. A few days ago, it was confirmed that the French have also ordered a small number of subcompact FN SCAR SC.
