What can the NGSW rifle do?

With the Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) program, which we have been following closely, the US Army has introduced the new caliber 6.8 x 51mm (with a special hybrid cartridge) and a new pair of small arms from SIG SAUER for their close combat troops. The XM-7 rifle in particular has garnered a lot of press attention - and some criticism as well. Infantry Captain Braden Trent made a stir this week when he reported that the data he's collected on the weapon indicates that the XM-7 rifle suffers from some serious issues and flaws, including excessive barrel wear and frequent failures of critical components.
