Say it clear, say it loud: Piefke

The common Austrian uses the name rather negatively. "Piefke" has a historical origin: On July 31, 1866, after the end of the Prussian-Austrian War in Marchfeld near Gänserndorf about 20 km before Vienna, a large parade took place with the 3rd, 4th, and parts of the 2nd Army Corps in front of King Wilhelm I of Prussia. Besides Johann Gottfried Piefke - called "August" - his brother Rudolf (1835-1900) also conducted a music corps. Among the Viennese who rushed to see it, the call "The Piefkes are coming" is said to have spread and become a symbol for 50,000 marching Prussians.

A name from a country where the trains used to run on time.

Say it clear, say it proud: Piefke!
