SUPERGUM IM 76 protective mask

02/20/2025

There are many gas masks on the market. From used military surplus to cheap masks from China. But if you seriously want to protect yourself, you shouldn't skimp on a protective mask, as gaseous substances can quickly become a deadly problem. We took a detailed look at the IM 76 from SUPERGUM from Israel.

Structure

The basic structure of the SUPERGUM IM 76 is nothing new. Almost classic, we would say. A large visor, an extra area that tightly encloses the mouth and nose, all made of comfortable flexible rubber. As always, the quality is in the details.

The protective shield attached

The first and quite important detail is the viewing window. The visor of the IM76 is really very low-distortion. In cheaper masks, there can often be very strong optical distortions at the edges and curves of the window. With the IM 76, these distortions are very minimal and you really have to look through the edge on the side. In the main field of view, we could not find any optical distortions.

Speaking of clarity, the viewing window did not fog up much for us. We were also outside in below-zero temperatures with no problems.

An additional protective shield is also included in the delivery.

This shield is simply attached. Tinted protective shields are also available.

The clear visor has a very positive effect when shooting with the protective mask. The reticle is always visible without distortion.

Fit

The fit of the IM76 is really good. With other masks, we have sometimes had problems finding the right size, but not here.

The IM 76 covers the entire face and still leaves enough space at the back near the ears.

Even with a slight beard, there is still enough tightness.

Buckle vs. normal buckle

The two upper straps are equipped with buckles. This means that you cannot adjust them quickly, but you have to adjust them to your head beforehand.

The four side straps are simply tightened by pulling. This is known in the form of other protective masks.

Putting it on is quick and with a little practice even faster. The procedure is the same as with other full-face protective masks. Start at the chin and then pull the strapping over the head. Then tighten all the straps.

Due to the flat buckles and visor shape, the IM76 also fits very well under the helmet

Connections

The grille on the underside protects the exhalation valve

The IM76 protective mask offers a total of three 40 mm NATO connections. One at the front, bottom-middle, and two on the sides at cheek level.

Here you can easily screw on all common protective filters.

The side connections are also perfect for pressure ventilation via hoses. Unfortunately, we did not have pressure ventilation available ourselves. The cover can only be released and tightened again with the provided tool, so don't lose it.

In our tests, we actually always carried the filter in the middle, as it interfered the least when combined with a long gun. Those who do not plan to change shoulders can also mount the filter on the side. This is generally more comfortable.

Here a HYDRA Mount is used, as it is made for shooting with protective masks due to its height.

Speech Quality

With most protective masks, there is a problem with speech communication. The spoken word sounds muffled and unclear, unless the protective mask is equipped with a special speech diaphragm.

The IM76 is equipped with such a diaphragm and this greatly facilitates communication. Speaking with the IM76 sounds like holding a thicker piece of fabric in front of your mouth. But everything is clearly understandable.

More Features

We also liked the drinking hose adapter. With many cheap protective masks, you search for something like this in vain.

To use this, you will need a special canteen, or the closure of it, or an adapter. The SUPERGUM Im76 comes with its own drinking hose adapter. The matching adapter piece, which then goes to the drinking bottle or water bladder, is included in the delivery.

The mouthpiece for drinking in light gray

To be able to drink, the mouthpiece must be folded in front of the mouth.

This is done via a lever on the outside.

The mask pouch, which is included in the delivery, is really well designed.

The IM76 fits easily inside with the filter screwed on. It also has a compartment for the visor in the lid.

Mounting on the belt is easy and holds well.

A firmly sewn elastic leg loop provides the necessary stability.

Conclusion

The CBRN mask IM 76 is a solid product. Thanks to the three connection points, the filter is never in the way. In combination with the long gun, the central connection has proven to be the best. The drinking hose works flawlessly. The strapping can be easily and well adjusted, and there are no significant pressure points even under the helmet.

The separately available attachable protective lenses are a very practical feature. Important for glasses wearers, there is an optical insert for the SUPERGUM IM 76. Thanks to the built-in speech membrane, you can communicate well with others, which is not always the case with protective masks.

The SUPERGUM IM76 is available directly from WAFFENHANDEL MESSER starting at 472 euros
