In the vehicle, a first aid kit must be carried, at least that's what the law requires under penalty. Most people keep their bandages in the trunk. This complies with the law, but in an emergency, it takes time to get the bandages ready. With the Tasmanian Tiger Head Rest IFAK, everything is much faster, as it is strategically located in the cockpit - behind the driver's head.
The Head Rest IFAK consists of a cover and an insert with clearly visible red handles. It weighs around 250 g when empty and measures 19 x 14 cm. The thickness can vary depending on the contents.
The attachment is done with two intersecting straps that are closed with velcro. One is made of five centimeter wide elastic band and the other is made of ten centimeter wide spandex-like material.
The back of the cover is equipped with anti-slip strips to keep everything in place.
The IFAK patch is included. The three vertical PALS rows above the velcro on the cover are made of elastic band.
The insert that holds the IFAK is sewn from black nylon and offers you a roughly 12 x 12 cm clear window pouch. Thanks to the small metal eyelets, the contents can be secured against loss.
The fully unfolded insert. Rubber band loops in variable widths and two insert compartments, that's what the Head Rest IFAK offers you.
At first glance, it may seem a bit small, but a classic trauma IFAK fits in here easily and without any problems …
… and when folded, it doesn't take up much space at all.
Now, the need to treat gunshot wounds in normal traffic is very rare - at least for now - that's why we stuffed the insert with a (almost) ÖNORM compliant first aid kit. And behold, everything fits and still easily fits into the cover.
Now it's time to install the Tasmanian Tiger Head Rest IFAK: On the underside of the cover, you'll find two round rubber loops on each side. One is fixed, the other is adjustable with a cord stopper. The fixed one can be threaded through the bars of the headrest for better STABILITY.
Moreover, the adjustable rubber loops are a good place for a tourniquet or emergency snack.
The attachment to the headrest may seem to impede the passenger. After a few hundred kilometers, we can assure you that it doesn't. It's not even noticeable. The narrow elastic band is freely movable, so the protruding velcro part can be pushed to the side.
A typical hand movement: reaching for one of the red loops and - click - the treatment can begin. Whether behind your own headrest or diagonally opposite on the passenger seat, you can always easily grip the red loop.
CONCLUSION: A well thought-out way to carry your first aid kit in a space-saving and easily accessible manner in the car. Whether regular first aid supplies or a specialized IFAK for gunshot wounds, everything fits perfectly.
The Tasmanian Tiger Head Rest IFAK is available at Tasmanian Tiger for 35.00 € excl. shipping and at all retailers carrying Tasmanian Tiger products.
