We are fans of the classic three-day Assault Backpacks (A-III). The guys from High Ground Gear and many users also, because now there is the BANG Pack Tactical, which is an upgrade to the normal Assault Pack. We took a detailed look at it.
This is what the Bang Pack looks like on a person. Very "low profile", without playful design features. We always like that. The backpack is made of 500 Cordura, giving it an empty weight of just under 1.3 kg.
What immediately stands out to the connoisseur compared to the classic A-III are the mesh side pockets. These are a really useful upgrade and therefore the PALS loops on the side were omitted. The compression strap can be routed over or through the mesh pocket. The mesh pockets can accommodate a variety of bottles, 1.5l PET bottles are no problem, canteens also fit well here.
For example, a tripod can be easily accommodated on the BANG Pack. The backpack measures approximately 47 x 35 x 20 cm and is the same size as a classic A-III. Good things don't need to be changed.
The front offers an 8 x 4 PALS matrix that is waiting for additional pockets. A 12 x 7.5 cm large Velcro area is ready for your patches.
On the bottom, in addition to the water drainage holes, you will also find a two-line PALS row with nine slots each. Perfect for fitting sleeping mats, if you have suitable straps, of course. Also clearly visible is the main compartment (bottom) with the attached front compartment. In total, you have 35 liters of packing volume available. Anyone who still has matching external pockets from an A-III at home will be delighted, as they also fit very well on the BANG Pack.
The BANG Pack is very comfortable to carry because of its shoulder straps. We already know these from the High Ground Gear Summit 5 Pack. They are 1.5 cm thick padded and 7.5 cm wide. Nothing cuts in there.
The shoulder straps are equipped with a cable channel. You can easily access this via a zipper. This makes threading much easier.
There are a total of three exits for hydration hoses available. The third one is not in the picture because it is located at the bottom end of the shoulder strap above the buckle.
The BANG Pack is closed with a buckle. Tried and tested and functional.
In order for the cables and the drinking tube to find their way out, there is an opening at the top of the main compartment with a Velcro flap.
To prevent anything from slipping, the BANG Pack comes with a hip and chest strap.
The chest strap is 20 mm wide and can be easily removed.
The hip belt can also be easily removed. It is essentially a 50mm wide strap onto which padding is placed. If you do not need it, it can be quickly removed.
The hip belt is closed with a buckle. Proven and functional.
One important question about a backpack is always: "How does it wear with a Plate Carrier?" We can answer that: the BANG Pack wears very well in combination with a Plate Carrier.
