Bundeswehr:
More trailers
11/07/2024

The Procurement Office of the Bundeswehr has awarded a total of three contracts for the production and delivery of new trailers and swap bodies for the Bundeswehr. The three framework contracts were previously approved by the Budget Committee of the German Bundestag.

Both the total of up to 9,700 two- and four-wheel trailers and up to 4,000 standard swap bodies are a so-called supplementary procurement to cover the further logistical needs of the Bundeswehr.

The up to 4,600 off-road two-wheel trailers 3.5t are carrier platforms for the transport of standardized load carriers (10 ft ISO containers or 10 ft swap bodies). These load carriers can accommodate various equipment sets or general cargo and replace the previous two-wheel trailers of the 1t or 1.5t classes.

Up to 5,100 units of the partially militarized four-wheel trailer 12.5t can be ordered through the framework contract that has now been concluded. They are also intended as carrier platforms for the transport of standardized load carriers (10 or 20ft ISO containers as well as 10, 15 and 20ft swap bodies). These load carriers can accommodate various equipment sets or general cargo and replace the previous 4-wheel and 6-wheel trailers of the 4t, 7t, and 10t classes.

The standard 20ft swap bodies are also already in use in the Bundeswehr. A swap body is an interchangeable load carrier for trucks and trailers that can be separated from the carrier vehicle.

The delivery of the first trailers, both two-wheel and four-wheel, is already planned for this month. The first approximately 800 swap bodies are expected to be delivered by mid-November 2025.
