The US Air Force is in the final phase of procuring the new Squad Designated Marksmanship Rifle (SDMR). The semi-automatic rifle, a variant of the HK417 in caliber 7.62 x 51 mm, was developed by Heckler & Koch for operations that require combat surveillance with precision firing capabilities for accurate engagement of targets up to 600 meters.
The Air Force has purchased 1,464 SDMRs. The SDMR has been delivered to Air Force units this year. The new SDMR replaces the M24 of the US Air Force and also the M110 of the Pararescue. All about the SDMR on SPARTANAT.
