Val Kilmer is dead. The actor delighted us with great roles. One of the best: The dramatic ten-minute shootout in "HEAT" (1995) by Michael Mann has become legendary in Hollywood for good reason. Every Saturday and Sunday for six weeks, the film's production team shut down parts of downtown Los Angeles to turn the city into a war zone. Legend has it that Val Kilmer did so well in the training that the footage of him firing in multiple directions and reloading his weapon (without a cut) was shown at Fort Bragg as part of the training for the American Green Berets. Definitely shown to recruits during Marine training at MCRD San Diego as an example of effective retreat under fire.
RIP Val Kilmer.
