Yes, that's a Swoosh. The logo of Nike. And these are military boots that we recently snagged at a local outlet. Like many companies, Nike does business with both sides of the world. Strong in the civilian fashion and sports sector, they also supply boots to the military. The Nike SFB Field 8" Boots are supposed to be used by the US Air Force (there are also some in "Sage", the drab green color that matches the digital tigerstripes of the USAF.)
As tacti-cool loot grabbers, we had to strike, especially since these boots weren't selling well at the outlet and were particularly cheap. Nike usually wants more than a proud 150 euros for SFB Field 8" Boots. In the sale, you can get them for a third or even less. They are probably being phased out because the Generation 2 is taking over. But they are so ugly that we wouldn't even take them on sale.
So we prefer classics. There are lightweight, non-waterproof boots, with a simple upper made of (artificial) suede leather and canvas. No desert in sight? Doesn't matter, just do it. The color of our pair is definitely Coyote. There also seems to be a British military version that is more khaki, a lighter color. And Sage and Black are also available.
No, it's not our long leash. Those are the shoelaces for the desert boots.
Nike doesn't skimp on the material. Here are the boots tied. Although it has a high shaft, you can easily make four wraps...
In the lower area, the shoe has leather eyelets, at the shaft four metal eyelets, which help you tie them quickly and easily.
The US boots are made by the former enemy in Southeast Asia. A nice example of how times change: Globalization creates peace, change through trade.
Inside look. The shaft is made of nylon, the stitching is excellent. (And before someone asks: there are no YKK zippers on the shoe.)
That's what's in the shoe. Pretty comfortable. We're just not sure if this insole meets our marching standards. It will be enough for a motorist army. But insoles are a matter of trust - and they can be quickly changed if they are worn out or don't prove themselves.
Back view: big loop for quick pulling on. Otherwise nothing special.
What we really like about these boots is the sole. Unlike traditional desert boots, Nike sells its shoes with a quite modern look.
This is where the logo comes in and a - you can see it right away - ...
... very aggressive form of the sole. This is supposed to help navigate rocky terrain. The sole is quite rigid and performs well in the field - even without the desert. By the way, you can quickly tell the difference between Field (desert) and Jungle Boots by Nike by looking at the sole. We've linked a video for you at the end of the article.
Leather and artificial leather are used in the body of the canvas boot. We're leaning towards more artificial. The color will last a long time in the sand. However, this pair will quickly develop nice stripes and patina on the shoe in grass, forest, and dirt.
CONCLUSION: A bargain in honor, no one can deny. Canvas shoes from Nike at this price, give them to us! We will wear them until they fall off our feet. After all, good utility boots from a brand manufacturer.
HERE a video gives you a good overview of the different versions of Nike combat boots.
We found the Nike SFB Field 8" Boots between 150 and 199 dollars. These are Generation 1, which Nike is currently clearing out. You can currently get them for around 50 euros at the outlet.
