REVIEW: STREAMLIGHT TLR-1 pistol light

A pistol light can be quite useful in special situations. Streamlight offers a very solid option with its TLR-1 pistol light, which is also very popular with us. The special thing about it: Bright light and easy to use. We took a detailed look at the TLR-1.

This is what the TLR-1 pistol light looks like on the gun. The light output is rated at 300 lumens, and with 12,000 Candela, it is far from dark. The light beam has a nice spot and a good overall diameter.

The other side. You can see very well the adjustment screw for the clamping resistance.

The TLR-1 head-on, so we don't get blinded when it's turned off. The weapon light is powered by a C4 LED. This is said to be very robust and durable.

On the back, there is a classic toggle switch with "momentary" and constant light function. The switch cover also doubles as the battery compartment cover. Streamlight provides a replacement cover where a cable switch can be mounted for use on long guns.

The mounting on the weapon is very simple. Adjust the clamp to the required width with the adjustment screw, then simply press and attach to the rail. When you release it, the spring will do its job and the TLR-1 will hold securely on the weapon. If it's still a bit shaky, simply tighten the adjustment screw with a coin or slotted screwdriver.

For completeness, the underside. Smooth metal without frills. The TLR-1 is IPX7 certified. This means it is waterproof for up to 30 minutes at a depth of one meter.

To be waterproof, the battery compartment must be securely closed. This is done on the TLR-1 with a hinge lock. It is designed so that it cannot unintentionally come loose when the light is mounted. Very well thought out.

To shine in full glory, the TLR-1 naturally needs power. This comes from two CR123A batteries, a classic choice.

CONCLUSION: The TLR-1 pistol light from Streamlight is a solid entry into the world of pistol lights. If you don't have very specific ideas and desires for your light, the TLR-1 is just right for you.
