DEFENCE DAY: Medium forces of the army

A new quality in the German Army is indicated in the key points paper of the Defense Minister and the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces and is already being implemented by the Inspector General of the Army: "Medium Forces"! For almost five decades, the Inspectors and planners of the Army did not pursue this operational idea. The doctrine was: "Heavy forces as the backbone, light forces as the supplement". That's why in the capability profile of 2017, the registration of initially two heavy armored divisions and one light air mobile division was made. Other countries (France, USA, Great Britain) were more advanced in terms of the concept of "Medium Forces."

But now, it is necessary to establish, equip (partly a new procurement strategy), and train this "new category of Medium Forces." For the German industry, this means presenting ideas in a timely manner in all capability domains of command, reconnaissance, effect, and support, in order to effectively deploy medium forces. This primarily involves integrating wheeled but still protected and highly modern (digitized) combat vehicles, especially for direct and indirect high firepower. In addition, a corresponding family of vehicles for operational support.

The Behörden Spiegel will examine this new capability of the land forces in its DSO - Defence Day at the end of the year on December 14, 2021, which may be a "game changer" militarily, politically, and in terms of defense technology. For this purpose, we will invite experts from the military, politics, and industry - in our established practice.
