L3Harris Technologies and Rheinmetall's subsidiary American Rheinmetall Vehicles have signed a cooperation agreement for the joint development of the Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV) for the U.S. Army. The OMFV is a significant U.S. defense project that will replace the Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle.
Through the agreement, L3Harris Technologies and American Rheinmetall Vehicles combine the leading position of L3Harris in open systems design and equipment manufacturing with the maturity and modularity of Rheinmetall's newly developed Lynx Infantry Fighting Vehicle. This creates an OMFV approach that is low-risk and enables rapid upgrades. HERE you can find all technical information about the Lynx.
American Rheinmetall Vehicles selected L3Harris to deliver vehicle mission systems, cyber security solutions, and the Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) for the Lynx in the event of an order. L3Harris' MOSA enables platform and domain interoperability of parts and subsystems to enable easy and cost-effective upgrades.
"We have a long history of providing similar support for multiple platforms with our MOSA approach to mission systems and electronic warfare," said James Gear, Vice President, L3Harris Domestic Business Development. "We look forward to collaborating with American Rheinmetall Vehicles to further penetrate the land systems market."
"We are excited to have L3Harris join our growing team for the U.S. Army's OMFV program," said Matthew Warnick, Managing Director of American Rheinmetall Vehicles. "L3Harris's experience in open architecture, communication, and cybersecurity is a tremendous asset to our Rheinmetall team as we further develop the OMFV approach to provide our soldiers with superiority on the battlefield now and in the future."
